Manufacturing Engineer



PURPOSE OF THE JOB



The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for performance and continued growth of the Aiken manufacturing facility, including the safety of all employees, process optimization, and training and development. This position strives to provide an environment for continuous improvement and target achievement for their team of responsibility and throughout the facility.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE OC AIKEN FACILITY


  • The Owens Corning Aiken Plant is one of the largest Non-Wovens plant in the network and has been in operation for 40
    years.
  • The plant operates three production lines 24/7 and employs 200 individuals.
  • Owens Corning composite products deliver productivity and performance benefits, including enhanced durability, design flexibility, light-weighting (reduced fuel consumption and emissions), corrosion resistance, and more.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Living the Owens Corning Safety Stand - Living Safely


  • Ensures a safe and environmentally compliant workplace where safety is a first priority
  • Reports and investigates injuries, first aids and near misses
  • Leads by example through hazard recognition and elimination


Delivery to Customer and Business


  • Being a subject matter expert on the critical product characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product
  • Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Supporting trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet our customer's fitness for use
  • Coordinates with upstream and downstream processes to meet production demands aligning people, raw material and machine capacities


Process Performance


  • Support the TPM process through Daily Management and participating on AM area or Pillar Teams as required.
  • Support plant maintenance and operations teams in system and equipment troubleshooting and in technology transfer
  • Performs root cause analysis in partnership with key stakeholders to address quality issues, implementing sustainable corrective actions for process shifts or upsets
  • Analyze product and process data to optimize performance. Identify and implement process improvements and best practices with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and improved efficiency.


Leading and developing talent


  • Educate primary employees in the manufacturing process and process control procedures
  • Engages team members to collaboratively own the success of the business by contributing to continuous improvement in the areas of safety, quality, cost, productivity, etc.
  • Provides candid feedback on expectations and performance to members of the team on a regular basis, and drives appropriate actions for further improvement
  • Recognizes and rewards positive behaviors and contribution to critical plant performance metrics
  • Implements and documents corrective action when performance issues occur
  • Effectively communicates critical plant performance metrics to team members daily to ensure engagement
  • Monitors and enforces all plant and corporate policies and procedures


Leads Continuous Improvement Activities


  • Leverages standard work to minimize variation and waste
  • Leads Focused Improvement activities to improve process capability and efficiencies, reduce costs, and eliminate waste
  • Partners with relevant stakeholders to optimize process and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participates in and leads Kaizen and 5S events in various work areas throughout plant



JOB REQUIREMENTS



EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent training, knowledge, and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years engineering experience in a manufacturing or technical environment
  • Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products

  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in sustaining and improving plant safety
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the work processes and procedures on one or more production lines
  • Strong technical acumen
  • Demonstrated success utilizing continuous improvement tools
  • Demonstrated ability to assess performance gaps and coach for results
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and adapt to unplanned situations
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and within a matrixed organization,
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good listening and comprehension skills
  • Resolves conflict as needed
