Job Summary Under direct supervision, the Fabric Worker makes, alters, and repairs a variety of fabric articles such as clothing, awnings, tents, gun covers, sleeping bags, parachutes, inflatable shelters, flags, bed linens, and belts.
Fabrics include wool, cotton, canvas, nylon, polyester, olefin, metallic fabrics, leatherette, velour, burlap, felt, vinyl and fabrics made of rubber yarns or plastic filaments.
Essential Functions:
Takes measurements and makes patterns and layouts.
Marks, cuts, fit, and sew or cements parts together, using hand or power tools and equipment and knowledge of fabrics and construction methods.
Assists furniture repairmen, upholsterers and other craftsmen.
Operates all equipment for sewing, mending and fabrication of canvas and textile products.
Determines methods and techniques to properly perform tasks, such as stitching, sizing and rating.
May do upholstery work on such items and cushions and vehicle seats.
Marginal Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supports Corporate Excellence in Customer Satisfaction Program.
Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures.
Working Conditions Exposure to noise levels related to the operation of commercial sewing and upholstery equipment.
Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, and other potential allergens.
Frequent exposure to a variety of textiles used in a military setting Physical work location:
Temperature Controlled Warehouse Physical and Mental Demands Frequent bending, standing, walking, sitting Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer and peripherals Ability to determine the methods of repair with minimal supervision.
Qualifications One year of experience in the sewing/mending and fabrication of canvas and textile products.
Must be able to read and comprehend all documentation pertaining to job performance, i.
e.
, technical manuals, specifications, Department of Army pamphlets and regulations.
Must be able to complete all required information on prescribed maintenance forms.
Specific positions require individual to pass an annual physical examination.
Education High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
