The Infection Preventionist demonstrates a high level of clinical knowledge and practice in a specialized clinical area. The Infection Preventionist functions autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers as a practitioner, educator, and leader. The Infection Preventionist responsible for specific patient outcomes related to infection prevention and core measures. She/he is also responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, directing, integrating and controlling activities for the Infection Control Program including infection control surveillance, follow-up; collection of data with aggregation; statistical analysis; and result reporting of such. Conducts performance improvement activities related to Infection Control needs and other duties related to functional area(s). She/he contributes to nursing and the hospital through the support of philosophy, objectives, education, and research efforts. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a coordinated and effective hospital wide Performance Improvement Program consistent with JCAHO''s, state, and federal standards.
Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor''s Degree.
Experience: Approximately three to five years clinical nursing experience with in-depth knowledge of nursing practices and in order to grasp concepts of infection control; experience preferably in a high risk area such as ICU, OR, or other areas where infection control practices are routinely an issue. Related work experience in order to gain full understanding of performance improvement, JCAHO and state and federal regulatory standards.
License/Certification: 1)Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia. 2) Current BLS Certification Required. 3) Willingness to obtain certifications on specialty areas as appropriate.
